Fighting for Labor Issues in Southeast Idaho & Wyoming

Carpenter & Millwright Local Union 808 knows your value in the workplace. That’s why we continue to fight for local carpenters and millwrights in Idaho Falls, ID, and surrounding cities in Southeast Idaho and Wyoming. From negotiating wages to increasing workplace safety, we advocate for labor issues and strive to strengthen solidarity among our working-class communities.

Our Labor Union & Continuing Education

Carpenter & Millwright Local Union 808 supports federally registered apprenticeship programs in Southeast Idaho sponsored by the Southern Idaho Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (SIDJATC). We also support the State registered apprenticeship program in Wyoming sponsored by the Wyoming Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (WY JATC). These programs provide many opportunities for carpenters and millwrights to advance and grow in their careers. Union membership can also take advantage of the journey-level upgrade courses that are offered by the program’s training agent, the Southwest Mountain States Carpenters Training Fund.

Let’s Talk Labor Issues: Join Our Monthly Meetings

All union members are eligible to attend our monthly meetings. They’re held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month. Union meeting attendance is important for several reasons. First, members can have a democratic voice in what the union does.

Second, council representatives attend these meetings and report on activities, so you’ll always stay informed of what’s happening in your area.

Last but not least, Foremen and Stewards regularly attend union meetings—it pays to get to know them, especially when you’re looking for work.

Collective Bargaining

Your wage is your means of survival, which is why our union fights to ensure you’re being fairly compensated for your hard work. Whether you have concerns about your wages or workplace safety, our union participates in collective bargaining. By working together, we’ll ensure your employer listens to and understands your concerns.

Labor Issues: Davis-Bacon

As a carpenter or millwright, the Davis-Bacon law applies to you. Under this federal law, you must be paid the prevailing wages set by the Department of Labor.

If your employer has not paid you these wages or you have received inadequate compensation, Carpenter & Millwright Local Union 808 will stand behind you. Call us today to learn more about this labor issue.

Other Social Advocacy Efforts

Our union seeks to add diversity into the emerging workforce. To achieve this, we continue to advocate for current labor issues, support pre-apprenticeship programs, and ensure local ordinances are incorporating community benefits agreements.

Right-to-Work Labor Issue

Idaho is a right-to-work state. This means that employers cannot require union membership as a condition of employment. Carpenter & Millwright Local Union 808 strives to combat the expansion of this law. Every worker should be able to participate in collective bargaining and enjoy the right to workplace democracy.
